Open Foundation West Africa (OFWA) has partnered with Siyavula to create Open Education Resources (OERs), in Math for Junior and Senior and High School students in Ghana.
This project when completed will provide free online and offline textbooks and other education solutions to aid the teaching and learning of math in our schools.
Apart from making study materials readily available online, the project seeks to reach students in less privileged communities, enable them to read books both online and offline.
It will involve teachers from some selected schools who would assist in developing the OERs.
Additionally, OFWA will ensure continuous collaboration to steer the project to fruition.
UNESCO describes Open Educational Resources (OERs) as educational materials that are in the public domain or introduced with an open license.
With this, anyone can legally and freely access, copy, adapt and reshare materials without having to worry about copyright.
OERs could be in any form: textbooks, projects, video, and audio among others.
One significant importance of OERs is that it eliminates the high cost of textbooks and shed financial pressure on parents.
It further allows teachers to focus on other materials relevant to their respective subjects.
